Carey Schaeffer
Carey is a graduate of Ohio University with a BS degree in electrical
engineering. Though she loved photography and the arts, she thought
engineering would be the best bet for an independent life. As a child,
she discovered the power of photography when she took a picture of
her older sister and her boyfriend while the two of them
was babysitting her.
As she grew up, Carey found her interest in taking pictures also grew. She loved to captures images of beautiful and interesting things. In her late teens, she bought her first 35mm camera.
In the mid nineties, she decided it was time to make a new life for herself. A dear friend, who happened to be a professional photographer, mentored her and rekindled her old passion. She started attending art shows and talked to the photographers and learned all that she could. At this point in time, digital photography was becoming of age and after a lot of deliberation Carey bought her first digital camera, a Nikon D100.
At about the same time a door of opportunity opened for her to do a project she had been thinking about for a long time - a photo journal of homelessness. This was the catalyst Carey needed to become serious about her photography. A portion of her work is featured in this gallery.
With every click of the shutter, Carey continues to grow. Capturing images of beauty is her love. Capturing images that tell a story is her passion.
